Start Your Engines
Start your engines: new year, new goals, new initiatives
Let the training season begin. February 1 is the first week of training for my 2016 triathlon season. I start the year with one aggressive goal and a handful of new initiatives to meet this goal. With Kona on my long-term goal list for 2018, I am planning to PR this year at my Lake Placid Ironman on July 24, 2016 with a finish time of 13:16:00.
The following new initiatives have been put in place and began several weeks ago:
1.)I have adopted the "whole30" eating program from the book "It starts with food". Sugar-free, dairy-free, and grain-free for 30 days except I plan to follow it for 100 days. After three weeks, my joints feel better than ever. I miss the alcohol but the health benefits are well worth it.
2.)I began drinking a new brand of water called "recovery water".
The patented electro-kinetic modification process provides a refreshing beverage (sugar-free) that will reduce physical stress, accelerate muscle recovery, and increase your body’s resiliency.*
3.)I hired a coach to help me one on one with my cycling including nutrition. I am re-discovering the importance of nutrition, cadence and heart rate zones during training and racing.
4.)I invested in a Pilates reformer for home daily use to increase my core strength and overall flexibility.
Old habits are definitely hard to break but for me. Setting up processes and implementing new initiatives, provides the FOCUS I need to see old habits die and new better habits come up in the spring.
